The Simpson Desert Ultra is one of Australia’s newest ultra marathons taking place in the heart of the Australian Outback. With distances of 100km, 75km, 50km & 25km, there is something for those new to the ultra-scene, as well as those more accustomed to the gruelling nature of such events. The event takes place near Birdsville in south west Queensland on the edge of the Simpson Desert and traverses a variety of terrains. From towering sand dunes to rocky gibber plains, it will surely test the limits of each participant and allow them to immerse themselves in a truly unique part of the Australian landscape. Participants can be assured of a high level of care and safety and will no doubt remember the Simpson Desert Ultra for its big heart and vast spaces.

 

SDU is the handiwork of Jenna Brook (SDU Fun Creator) – a born and bred Birdsville local who has a love of showing others the little patch of paradise on her doorstep, better known as Outback Australia. The idea was born while returning over the desert after a recent trip to see the floodwaters flowing into Lake Eyre, where she was reminded of the joy expressed by participants throughout the recently ended Big Red Run and she decided it was time to take on the challenge of reinvigorating adventure in the Outback. While it’s no easy feat putting together an event in such a remote area, with a passion for creating the most supportive and joyful event around, Jenna aims to deliver on her promise of building the little event with big heart.
